At LaceyField, we recognise the importance of structured physical activity that challenges and develops pupils’ physical ability, necessary to maintain good physical and mental health.
Aims and Purpose
At Laceyfield, we aim to provide a high quality physical education programmes that inspires all pupils to succeed and excel in competitive sport and other physically demanding activities. We nurture a safe, happy and caring environment where everyone is valued equally. We recognise that PE should provide opportunities for pupils to become physically confident in a way which supports their health and fitness. Opportunities to compete in sport and other activities, build character and help to embed our Laceyfield ‘Bee-haviours’.
Our curriculum for physical education aims to ensure that all pupils:
- Develop physical competence to excel in a broad range of physical activities;
- Are physically activity for sustained periods of time;
- Develop skilful use of the body to be able to repeat, remember and refine actions and sequences for performance;
- Recognise the benefits of physical activity in an enjoyable, safe and challenging environment;
- Understand the physical effects exercise on the body and know how to exercise safely;
- Engage in competitive sports and activities;
- Lead healthy, active lifestyles
- Develop an understanding of safe practice and responsibility towards their own and others’ safety.
- Understand and cope with a range of outcomes, which includes both success and failure.
- Establish self-esteem through development of physical confidence.
How do we do it?
- Progressive curriculum from R to Y6, utilising Get Set 4 PE scheme.
- Access to HQPE through staff knowledge and use of sports partners
- Opportunity for competition through WSSP
- Extra-curricular clubs
- Active opportunities through the day
- Developing structured playtime activities and leadership opportunities
- Reflection and forward thinking skills by pupils
Swimming
Swimming will take place in Y4 (Autumn), with top-up* swimming occurring in the final term for Y6.
Pupils should be taught to:
- Swim competently, confidently and proficiently over a distance of at least 25m*
- Use a range of strokes effectively;
- Perform safe self-rescue in different water based situations
All swimming will take place at Meridian Leisure Centre, Louth under instruction from 2 x L2+ Swim England coaches.
Subject Content (KS2)
Pupils should continue to apply and develop a broader range of skills, learning how to use them in different ways and links them to make actions a sequences of movement. They should enjoy communicating, collaborating and competing with each other, and peers from other schools. They should develop an understanding of how to improve different physical activities and sports and learn how to evaluate and recognize their own successes.
Our Bees will be taught to:
- Use running , jumping, throwing and catching in isolation and in combination
- Play competitive games (modified where appropriate) and apply basic principles for attacking and defending
- Develop flexibility , strength, technique, control and balance
- Perform dances using a range of movement patterns
- Take part in outdoor and adventurous activity challenges individually and as a team
- Compare performances with previous achievements and demonstrate improvement to the best they can be.
