Our curriculum is designed to foster a culture of high expectations where all subjects are valued and interconnected. We believe that a broad and balanced education empowers children to develop a deep understanding of the world around them and equips them with the knowledge and skills necessary to achieve improved outcomes and progress for all in life.
The core aim of our curriculum is for pupils to have the skills and knowledge to be successful, independent, and motivated learners. Our curriculum is designed to be engaging and inspiring so that all learners, especially those from disadvantaged backgrounds (Pupil Premium – PP) and with SEND, develop enquiring minds and aspirational learning ambitions to prepare them for lifelong success.
We are resolutely dedicated to closing the attainment gap between Pupil Premium (PP) and Non-PP learners. This commitment is driven by the following principles:
Science of Learning: We champion evidence-based practices rooted in the Science of Learning (e.g., retrieval practice, spaced learning, and interleaving) to ensure that essential knowledge is securely embedded into children’s long-term memory. This systematic approach accelerates progress for all and disproportionately benefits those who need it most.
Metacognition: We explicitly teach and encourage metacognition strategies—the ability for pupils to plan, monitor, and evaluate their own learning. Through consistent modeling and prompting, learners develop a deep understanding of how they learn, becoming resilient and independent learners.
Oracy: We place a strong focus on oracy (the ability to express oneself fluently and grammatically in speech). Our curriculum actively promotes structured discussion, debate, and confident articulation across all subjects. This focus is a powerful tool for building vocabulary, deepening understanding, and enhancing social mobility.
Prior knowledge is always the starting point. Explicit links are made between what learners already know and how these skills and knowledge will help with future aspirational learning. Our unit overviews capture these links for learners and leaders, encouraging them to revisit and build upon these over time. Ongoing regular assessment and analysis allows us to really understand what our learners know and can remember and swiftly address gaps and misconceptions to ensure that excellent progress is made by all, regardless of their starting points.
Building on and enriching the Early Years Foundation Stage framework and the National Curriculum, we offer a breadth of subjects, knowledge, and experiences through an inspiring curriculum because our learners deserve the best education. We have a resolute dedication to guaranteeing that all learners leave LaceyField with excellent mathematical and literacy skills which will allow them to thrive at secondary school and beyond.
We see our learners holistically and educate them to be valuable citizens of society with a strong social and moral code who understand their own brilliant uniqueness and self-worth and value that in others. We encourage children to be the best version of themselves. Our curriculum and extra-curricular/enrichment activities are structured to nurture and celebrate individual talents, strengths, and interests while also championing teamwork and collaboration.
We ensure that the pupils have a voice and contribute to their learning. We take on ideas and suggestions from the children, and classroom learning environments reflect the ongoing, collaborative learning journey. Our school parliament and ecowarriors champion ideas from their classes and decide which projects are their priority, reporting back to their classes at their meetings. This promotes inclusion, responsibility, and democracy.
We implement an ambitious curriculum by:
Empowering teachers: Through high-quality staff training and subject leader coaching, we ensure teachers are well-equipped to deliver an ambitious, bespoke curriculum that meets the individual needs of all learners, driving improved outcomes.
Building strong partnerships: We believe in open communication and collaboration. Regular opportunities are provided for parents/carers to be informed and celebrate their children’s learning, both within the academy and beyond.
Ensuring progress: Efficient quality assurance processes and effective evidence-based interventions are embedded across the curriculum to drive continuous improvement and attainment, guaranteeing sustained progress for all.
Promoting lifelong learning: Our progressive curriculum, aligned with clear subject progression documents, equips students with the foundational knowledge and transferable skills necessary for success in their academic journeys and beyond, fueling aspirational learning.
